I have studied this for years and have come to the conclusion that the bible is pure myth, however, I don't understand why people are insulted by this statement. I love mythology and find it to be a much under appreciated and useful art form, and if you read the bible with the same attitude you would have reading Homer or Aesop you get a completely different message that makes a lot more sense and is quite a valuable message. What I just said pisses off both the religious and atheists alike, and I will never understand why, but I dont care either because it is true.

Of course they are pissed off, they love to say that their stories are the truth while all other religions are lies. Comparative mythology puts Christian religion in their place of mythology as real as Greek, Nordic or Anui mythology.

Blah.. if we took all religions out of mythology..what would be left?

It's mythology any way you look at it, and mythology can have alot of value, don't see why this is so offensive, maybe the entire world is retarded.

It's a myth. Even the true events are most likely embellished to the point of ridiculous by the time it was written, re-written, translated, and re-translated. There aren't even any original source documents like say the Code of Hammurabi or the Book of the Dead.
Don't like that? Don't take the fucking class. Go to your Bible "study" at church and shut up.
Dennis Pennington
If the Bible is taught in any school class it should be taught as mythology. If you want to teach it or other books like it as truth them do that teaching in your church or holy place.

It is interesting when the reality hits one between the eyes people get insulted. The Christians would says that the Greek and Roman stories are a myth. Most don't see the odd similarities between Egyptian stories and Babylonian stories that creep into the bible. When one has a narrow scope on the world they live in, they think their thoughts and beliefs are completely original. This is not how the world works, which is why religion becomes an intricate aspect in a lot of people's lives. Just read the Bible and one can tell that Myths permeate all through it, but this is hard to accept when it is the core of ones being and core beliefs, very difficult to look at things objectively and also to apply critical thinking.

Why is this dumb woman even in the video?
Basically she said that because so many people love the Bible, we should somehow give it special exception and deny it is mythological.

How dare they! The lies keep on coming. Destroy one and they make up more. The audacity of some people. Jesus Christ is the truth.

Who cares if it is insulting.
If someone finds a fact insulting it is their personal problem.
The intellectually dishonest female is bending over backwards to accommodate people who clearly believe in something that is no less myth than the Ancient Greek or Norse pantheon of deities.

READ it first, then tell me how you could EVER live your life around the Bible. There are plenty of inspirational, positive, down to earth lessons BUT that's not the whole book. CERTAINLY NOT inspired by a perfect Creator.

"Myths" can be true, just not in a literal sense. This is what ppl don't get.
A few kind lines in the bible does not make a good book. The day I accept the bible as a good book is the day I accept the Klan as good . Never going to happen.

Every god that lacks active modern followers is taught as religion, look at the Greek gods, Nordic gods, the Mesoamerican gods. If it is acceptable to teach that as mythology, then it's acceptable to teach modern religions as mythology.

dictionary.reference. com/browse/myth Looks to me valid to call it myth. If people believe, it's their own choice… And nothing wrong about it. But they should keep in mind those beliefs are unproven. No, you can't prove God doesn't exist you're right. But you can't prove the non-existence of any other god. It is a matter of faith and it is okay to have it, but it doesn't give you the right of choosing your own labels. The words exist to be used.

science or not you cannot disprove the idea of there being a higher power. you cannot and it is just simply that. my problem with this is that it is one of the biggest religions in the world so to simply discredit it is insulting. also it is being exclusive. if you teach the bible as a myth then why aren't they including other major religions as myth? i think that personally it should be an all or nothing situation. i believe you either take all religion as myth or you consider none to be myth. personally i am a christian but i do not think that public universities should include religion. if it is a private religious college, then all power to them. the way i am is don't shove things down peoples throat. i have an agnostic friend and neither of us try to convert the other either way. we respect that we disagree on things and we don't let it define us.
TLDR: either include every religion that believes in a god as a myth or don't include any at all. either way people will be pissed off.

I don't believe in myths, I am an atheist and amateur scientist and astronomer, there is no place for myths amongst my interests. However, I can't help feeling that yet again TYT are focusing almost exclusively on Christians, which of course is typically Liberal. Most Liberals are anti-Christian, anti-Western, and to a certain extent anti-Semitic. Just look at the Liberal coverage of anti-Christian persecution in the Middle-East and other Muslim countries. None what so ever. Yet they attack Israel all the time. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty to criticize when it comes to Israel's Zionist policies, but where is the criticism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, and their appalling human rights records. Yet again none what so ever. Yet this outfit sees fit to largely exaggerate Islamophobia in the West. I do believe discrimination against Western Muslims exists, and it is most certainly wrong, but feel again that this phenomenon is being used to cover up anti-Semitism and anti-Christian persecution world wide.

The word comes from the Greek "mythos", originally meant speech but later came to mean legend.
Mythology are the stories told about the god/gods of a culture.
Religion is the actual practice of certain rituals and laws and rules and certain beliefs about the god/gods of those cultures. You can have mythology without religion, but you can't have religion without a mythology.

As I see it, the difference between mythology and religion is that religions are still practiced and held sacred by many. That applies not only to Christianity, but to Judaism, Buddhism, and anything else that is still alive as a religion today. The word mythology implies that it's not real, which is clearly offensive to those who live their lives following these teachings.
The solution is simple, really – separate the class into two distinct parts, Religion and Mythology.
